Dear colleagues,
As shared in a memo on January 10, Donna McNeely retired at the end of January as executive director of the University Office of Ethics and Compliance. Dave Grogan had served as interim executive director since that time, but made the decision to retire. His retirement was effective February 16. I very much appreciate his willingness to support the office, and wish Dave all the best in his next chapter.
As of February 16, John Alsterda, formerly campus legal counsel for the University of Illinois Chicago, has been serving as interim executive director of ethics and compliance. Traci Rolf will continue as interim ethics officer, and both will serve until the permanent position is filled.
John worked in the Office of University Counsel from 2007 to 2023. He came to the university in 2007 after being in private practice for 18 years. He was appointed as UIC Campus Legal Counsel in 2016. John was responsible for delivery of all legal services at UIC, including management of in-house attorneys and professional staff at the Chicago office and oversight of outside counsel retained for legal matters arising at the Chicago campus. He received his undergraduate degree from Colorado College and earned his law degree from the University of Illinois College of Law.
Please join me in thanking the entire staff of ethics and compliance for continuing their important work during this transition period, and John and Traci for fulfilling these important interim roles.
Sincerely,
Tim Killeen
