The Senate Committee on Honorary Degrees invites all departments and units to identify and nominate individuals who have made substantial contributions to their respective academic disciplines for a honorary degree award. Information regarding the nomination procedures and criteria for honorary degree award nominations can be found online. https://senate.illinois.edu/hd_criteria.asp
The prime, controlling consideration should be distinction. The person should have made a distinguished contribution to knowledge and creativity in the relevant field of endeavor, or have shown sustained activity of uncommon merit.
A list of honorary degree awards previously awarded at this campus can be found online. https://commencement.illinois.edu/general-information/archives/honors-and-awards-recipients/
Please contact Franci Miller (familler@illinois.edu) in the Office of the Senate if you have any questions about the honorary degree award process.
Sincerely,
Senate Committee on Honorary Degrees
