Dear Colleagues,
Illinois International has begun collecting nominations for the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign’s prestigious International Achievement Awards. These awards provide us with a remarkable opportunity to honor and celebrate the accomplishments of deserving alumni, faculty, and current students for their globally focused work and/or scholarship. To date, more than 100 members of the Illini family have been honored and I hope you will assist us in nominating potential recipients.
There are five award categories to which one may submit a nomination:
- Madhuri and Jagdish N. Sheth International Alumni Award for Exceptional Achievement: Established in 2000 with a gift from Dr. Jagdish and Mrs. Madhuri Sheth, this award recognizes distinguished international alumni who have made outstanding contributions in their profession, government, humanity, science, art, or human welfare, and exemplify the strength of their education at Illinois. The nominee must have been an international student during their time at Illinois.
- Sheth Distinguished Faculty Award for International Achievement: Established by the Provost in 2001 and endowed by Dr. Jagdish and Mrs. Madhuri Sheth in 2006, this award recognizes a current Illinois faculty member for exemplary accomplishments in teaching, research, and public service in the international arena.
- Charles C. Stewart International Young Humanitarian Award: Established in 2005 and endowed by Professor Emeritus Charles C. Stewart in 2007, this award recognizes the accomplishments of an Illinois graduate whose dedicated international service exemplifies ideals of selflessness and service to communities outside the U.S.
- Illinois International Graduate Achievement Award: This award recognizes an Illinois graduate student (U.S. citizen or international) whose innovative and sustained international research or public service has had significant societal impact.
- Illinois International Undergraduate Achievement Award: This award recognizes an Illinois undergraduate student (U.S. citizen or international) for significant service or contribution through an international study, program, or project.
How to Submit a Nomination
All nominations require a narrative, CV or unofficial transcript, and a letter of support (alumni/faculty awards only). Nominations can be submitted online using the appropriate form:
Nominations will be accepted through December 15, 2024, for the current cycle. I hope you will also make plans to save the date for the 2025 Sheth Distinguished Alumni Lecture on the afternoon of April 24, 2025.
