Dear Colleagues,
I write to announce that Kevin Pitts has decided to relinquish his role as Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education to focus on his work with Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (Fermilab). He has been carrying out research at Fermilab for more than two decades. While we are losing him as Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education starting next month, I am happy to report that he will continue to be a member of the Physics faculty.
Kevin has served as Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education since 2017. In this position, he has served as the university-wide leader in undergraduate education strategic direction, innovation, initiatives and pedagogy. During this time, he led the team that created and implemented Illinois Commitment, a program that has transformed the way the state thinks about an Illinois education and affordability. He also led collaboration on the Illinois Success Initiative, bringing together leaders across campus to work to further enhance the undergraduate student experience. I am also grateful for his steady leadership in the past several months of the COVID-19 pandemic. I hope you will join me in thanking Kevin for his leadership and for his contributions to our university’s educational mission.
I am in the process of recruiting a faculty member from our university to serve as Interim Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education, and I hope to announce their appointment very soon.
Sincerely,
Andreas C. Cangellaris
Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Provost
