• UIUC Procedures for Adjudicating Allegations of Misconduct in Research and Publication

  The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation has published a new procedures document for responding to incidents of alleged research misconduct, the Procedures for Adjudicating Allegations of Misconduct in Research and Publication, effective August 16, 2024.  These Procedures supersede a prior document and were prepared pursuant to the University of Illinois System Policy on Integrity in Research and Publication approved by the Board of Trustees in July 2021. The Policy directs each of the three universities in the UI System to develop procedures to implement the Policy with the Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation as the Responsible Official for the UIUC campus.  

  The updated procedures were developed by an ad-hoc committee appointed by Prof. Susan A. Martinis, Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation. Input was provided by the Senate General University Policy Committee, the UI System Ethics Office, the Office of University Counsel, and other campus stakeholders.  

  The Procedures will be published on the OVCRI’s website. The effective date defines the applicable procedures for reported complaints of Research Misconduct made on and after August 16, 2024. Allegations of research misconduct reported prior to August 16, 2024 will continue to be adjudicated following the University of Illinois System’s Policy and Procedures on Integrity in Research and Publication (effective August 28, 2009) to the extent they are consistent with the Policy approved in July 2021.
