Colleagues,
The university is adding another layer of protection to undergraduate email to help prevent student accounts from being compromised. Starting September 28, 2022, multi-factor authentication will be required for undergraduate students when accessing Microsoft Office 365 applications, including email.
Students not already using Duo 2FA for campus applications will be asked to enroll their second factor device to prepare. Students who already use Duo do not need to take any action, as Duo works the same for any application it protects.
Students may contact the help desk for assistance enrolling in Duo and setting up their second factor device at consult@illinois.edu or 217-244-7000.
There are multiple options for students to authenticate using a traditional mobile phone, smart phone, or another external device. Any student who cannot find an option from among the choices for their second factor after receiving assistance from the help desk will be included on a list to bypass the Duo requirement.
Instructors and advisors also will receive emailed information about this coming change in case they receive questions from students about how to receive help.
Please reach out to Sandra Thompson, sthomp@illinois.edu, if you have specific questions regarding this change.
Sincerely,
Chuck Geigner
Interim Chief Privacy and Security Officer
