Dear Colleagues,
Since the initiation of Provost Communications 25 and 26, Illinois Human Resources and the Office of Access and Equity have processed appointment change requests to realign specialized faculty titles. These realignments have been approved in accordance with Provost Communications and in conformity with the specialized faculty guidelines developed by the requesting department. The process allows units to address current faculty and staff who are performing duties that are represented by a specialized faculty job title that was not previously available. For example, these transitions could include a former “Lecturer” performing duties now better aligned with the title “Teaching Assistant Professor.”
Since title realignments are intended to address current faculty and staff, it is expected that realignments will not be necessary once eligible employees are evaluated under established college or unit specialized faculty guidelines. Therefore, faculty realignment requests will be accepted for approval by the appropriate offices until May 15, 2019. Following this date, units wanting to hire current employees into specialized faculty titles will be expected to conduct open searches as they would for any other vacancy or new position. Consistent with existing appointment guidelines, appointment change requests seeking a title change will be considered under exceptional circumstances.
Please contact Assistant Provost Sharon Reynolds at sreynlds@illinois.edu should you have any related questions or comments regarding these procedures or the deadline.
Sincerely,
William Bernhard
Vice Provost for Academic Affairs
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
