Dear Colleagues,
To meet new insurance carrier requirements, the University of Illinois System must enhance our Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) checks. An MVR is a report that provides a summary of an individual’s driving history, such as violations, accidents, and license status.
As part of our commitment to safety and risk management, we will begin conducting continuous MVR checks for employees who regularly drive on behalf of the university. A system-wide committee is overseeing implementation to ensure consistency. These checks will help confirm that individuals operating vehicles for university business are safe, qualified, and compliant with insurance requirements.
We are coordinating with colleges and units regarding the criteria for identifying “regular drivers,” the process for submitting regular driver names, and available resources. An official university policy will go into effect on December 19, 2025.
