The Senate Committee on Honorary Degrees invites all departments and units to identify and nominate individuals who have made substantial contributions to their respective academic disciplines for a honorary degree award. Information regarding the nomination procedure and criteria for honorary degree award nominations can be found at https://www.senate.illinois.edu/hd_criteria.asp
The prime, controlling consideration should be distinction. The person should have made a distinguished contribution to knowledge and creativity in the relevant field of endeavor, or have shown sustained activity of uncommon merit.
A list of honorary degrees previously awarded at this campus can be found at http://commencement.illinois.edu/ceremonies/honors_awards.html
Please contact Franci Miller (familler@illinois.edu) in the Office of the Senate if you have any questions about the honorary degree award process.
Sincerely,
Senate Committee on Honorary Degrees
