Mark Henss, Deputy University Counsel, is retiring at the end of January 2020. I am pleased to announce that following an internal search, Scott Rice, who currently serves as the Campus Legal Counsel at Urbana-Champaign, will be assuming the position of Deputy Counsel.
For the past 14+ years, Scott has served the University as an attorney in the Office of University Counsel and has provided legal advice to University administrators, faculty and staff on a vast and wide range of legal topics. In 2011, Scott was appointed Campus Legal Counsel at UIUC, where he has served with great skill as the legal advisor to the Chancellor, Provost and other campus administrative officers. Currently, he is participating in the President’s Executive Leadership Program.
I am confident that you will find Scott’s years of experience here at the University and his demonstrated ability to work effectively with others to be of great value. Scott is in the process of transitioning into the role; his appointment, of course, is subject to approval by the Board of Trustees at its meeting on January 16.
