Dear Colleagues:
I am pleased to share with you that Nizam Arain has accepted our offer to become the inaugural Associate Vice Chancellor for Compliance in the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion. Mr. Arain will serve in an interim capacity beginning May 16, 2020 while his appointment is pending approval by the Board of Trustees.
Mr. Arain has most recently served as the Director of Equity & Affirmative Action and Title IX Coordinator at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse since 2012, where he has been a member of the university's leadership team. He holds a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School. Previously, he was Assistant to the Vice Chancellor for Administration & Finance, Risk Manager, Contract Administrator, and Records Officer, all at UW-La Crosse, and a practicing attorney in his hometown of Chicago.
As the Associate Vice Chancellor for Compliance, Mr. Arain will lead the Office for Access & Equity, responsible for its Affirmative Action, EEO investigative, and ADA compliance functions, as well as the Office for Business, Community & Economic Development. He will serve as an advisor, decision-maker, strategic leader, and partner in engaging employees to improve the institution’s equity efforts necessary to create and sustain a diverse and inclusive campus community that is open, just, and welcoming for all.
