Dear colleagues:
Senior Assistant Vice President for Academic Programs and Partnerships Julian Parrott is retiring from the University of Illinois System at the end of October.
A proud University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign alumnus, Parrott spent his entire 30-plus-year career in higher education within the U of I System. Julian began his career at UIUC as a graduate assistant advisor in the General Curriculum Center in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. His passion for working with students has been evident from the beginning.
He expanded the advisor center program in 2007 to provide additional resources for incoming students and subsequently extended it from a college program to a university-wide program. He led the development and integration of the student and academic affairs unit at the College of Media, combining academic advising, career counseling, student support, study abroad, and internship programs.
In his current role as senior assistant vice president, he facilitates relationships between the system and outside organizations and agencies, including the Illinois Board of Higher Education and the Illinois Community College Board. He has led the University Academic Programs and Services (UAPS) in setting priorities and providing leadership in academic programs as well as in student affairs and public service programs such as the Salute to Academic Achievement, Salute to Illinois Scholars, and Transfer Guarantee programs.
A native of Wales, Parrott earned a bachelor’s degree in American Studies at the University of Manchester, England; a master’s degree in history from Western Illinois University; and a doctorate from UIUC. He is an avid traveler, a self-described mediocre cocktail mixologist, and a published author. He is looking forward to traveling and writing.
Please join us in congratulating Julian on his years of service to the U of I System. We wish him and his family all the best in the next chapter of life.
Nicholas P. Jones
