The Illinois Scholars at Risk Program (ISAR) is seeking expressions of interest by departments or campus units interested in hosting on a visiting basis a scholar facing severe risks to their freedom and well-being.
Created in AY22-23, ISAR matches IIE-Scholar Rescue Fund Fellows (https://www.scholarrescuefund.org/) or Scholars at Risk-designated academics (https://www.scholarsatrisk.org/) with departments on campus willing to host the scholars on a visiting basis. This academic year, departments in the Colleges of LAS, ACES, Vet Med, and the Grainger College of Engineering are hosting seven scholars from five countries (Afghanistan, Ukraine, Cameroon, Guatemala, and Lebanon).
A committee of faculty and students has been formally charged to guide and support the university’s efforts to host scholars affiliated with ISAR for visits up to one year in duration, with the possibility of an extension for a second year as well. Central campus funds are available on a matching basis for hosting units. More information about the program is available at: https://scholarsatrisk.illinois.edu.
Departments or campus units interested in hosting a scholar at risk in AY24-25 should complete this expression of interest form by January 31, 2024. The ISAR Committee can provide interested units with profiles of potential scholars to host. Units may also suggest their own scholar.
Thank you for your support in this important partnership as we work to further our educational, scholarly and global missions and host scholars in need.
