This message is a reminder of requirements and guidelines for university-related international travel under CAM HR-39 International Travel Safety Policy.
Key Points for All Travelers
- The International Travel Safety Policy does not apply to personal travel.
- International Insurance enrollment is compulsory for all university-related international travel (travel outside the 50 states and the District of Columbia).
- Enrollment is online via the Safety Abroad website.
- Faculty and staff may be enrolled by a proxy.
- Graduate students must enroll as students, even for travel conducted during an assistantship. There is no proxy enrollment.
- Fees and payment: The University of Illinois System pays the premium for faculty and staff. Units must pay the insurance fee (by CFOP) for graduate student travel conducted during assistantships.
Coverage Benefits
- Medical care up to $500K.
- Evacuation up to $250K.
- Quarantine benefit up to $2K (including lodging, meals, flights).
- Tele-health and tele-counseling (free).
- Trip interruption ($1,000 flight only).
Additional Information
- After enrolling, travelers receive email confirmation from studyabroad@illinois.edu. Gallagher Insurance emails a verification letter within seven to ten days.
- Enrollment is required for each distinct trip abroad. The enrollment application allows multiple destinations during each trip.
- Travelers enrolled by proxy are responsible for verifying their itinerary.
