The Senate Committee on Honorary Degrees invites all departments and units to identify and nominate individuals who have made substantial contributions to their respective academic disciplines for a honorary degree award. Information regarding the nomination procedure and criteria for honorary degree award nominations can be found online.
The prime, controlling consideration should be distinction. The person should have made a distinguished contribution to knowledge and creativity in the relevant field of endeavor, or have shown sustained activity of uncommon merit.
A list of honorary degrees previously awarded at this campus can be found online.
Please contact Franci Miller (familler@illinois.edu) in the Office of the Senate if you have any questions about the honorary degree award process.
Sincerely,
Senate Committee on Honorary Degrees
