On Wednesday, June 4, ISSS Director Martin McFarlane sent the following message to all international students, faculty, staff, and scholars:
Dear students, faculty, and staff:
Earlier today, the White House issued a new proclamation concerning entry into the United States for the citizens of nineteen countries.
International Student and Scholar Services is currently reviewing the announcement in detail to fully understand the changes and how they impact members of our international community. ISSS will follow up with additional communications directly to those affected as soon as we have a fuller understanding of the information released.
We encourage members of our international community to review the announcement and accompanying fact sheet issued by the White House and reconsider upcoming international travel if their home country is listed.
We understand this announcement is distressing and anxiety inducing for all members of our international community. We want to emphasize that you are welcome and wanted here at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Our diverse and talented international population is part of what makes our university great. ISSS will continue to do our best to communicate, advocate, and support all members of our international community as we navigate these changes.
Sincerely,
MARTIN MCFARLANE
Director, International Student and Scholar Services
