The student will work with Dr. Mark Davis (INHS) and Dr. Adam Dolezal (Entomology).

  • Graduate Research Assistantships (MS or Ph.D.) - Aquatic Ecology - Illinois Natural History Survey

    The Illinois Natural History Survey (INHS) is seeking 2 graduate research assistants (GRAs) starting Summer or Fall 2025 to conduct research in the areas of aquatic ecology, invasion biology, or fisheries ecology. MS or PhD GRAs are available to research topics such as sport fish growth and recruitment, habitat enhancements for reservoir fisheries, riverine larval fish ecology, and harvest regulations.

    The Illinois River Biological Station is seeking two technicians to conduct applied research in aquatic ecology and large river systems and process riverine samples for aquatic macroinvertebrates.  throughout the state of Illinois. This position will be 40 hours per week and will be based in Macomb, Illinois.

    The Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program sponsored by the National Science Foundation supports active research participation by undergraduate students in any of the areas of research funded by the Foundation. The Illinois Natural History Survey (Prairie Research Institute) at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign is seeking undergraduate students who want to be involved in an ongoing research project focused on the detection and characterization of phytoplasmas, a group of bacteria associated with insects (vectors, primarily Hemiptera) and plants (hosts) and implicated in plant disease.

  • Senior Scientific Specialist, Aquatic Ecology - Illinois Natural History Survey

    The Illinois Natural History Survey (INHS) is seeking an Aquatic Ecologist who will plan, coordinate, and conduct basic research and applied studies related to Great Lakes Aquatic Ecology and communicate the results of those studies in a variety of formats and venues.

    This in-person position is located in Zion, Illinois at the Lake Michigan Biological Station. 

  • Senior Scientific Specialist or Assistant Research Scientist, Botany - Illinois Natural History Survey

    The Illinois Natural History Survey (INHS)  is seeking a Botanist at either the Senior Scientific Specialist or Assistant Research Scientist level. The selected candidate will be responsible for coordinating activities for a three-year NOAA-funded project. The project is a collaboration between the Illinois Natural History Survey, the Illinois State Geological Survey, the Illinois Sustainable Technology Center, and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, to assess plant communities, hydrology, and water quality in relation to restoration efforts at Illinois Beach State Park in Zion, IL. This position will coordinate surveys of vegetative communities using field-based sampling techniques as well as drone-based aerial imagery analysis. The individual will communicate with the Principal Investigators, supervise hourly staff, and assist in all aspects of data collection, entry, analysis, and dissemination. The individual will also assist in Outreach and Education events and the development of a CoastSnap station to engage citizen scientists.

    This position is located in Champaign, Illinois on the University of Illinois campus. However, remote work options may be available.

  • Visiting Senior Scientific Specialist, Epidemiology - Illinois Natural History Survey

    The Illinois Natural History Survey (INHS) is seeking a Visiting Epidemiologist who will contribute to the survey's research activities by conducting research and laboratory work on various aspects of chronic wasting disease (CWD) epidemiology, including indirect environmental transmission, interactions with other microorganisms, and tissue degradation.

    This position is located in Champaign, Illinois on the University of Illinois Campus, however, remote work options may be available.
