  • 2014 Undergrad Summer Research - Maryland Robotics Center

2014 NSF-sponsored Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program at the Maryland Robotics Center -- Research Opportunities in Miniature Robotics

Miniature robots, defined as small robots with overall sizes between 1 mm and 100 mm have the potential to significantly enable or enhance capabilities in manufacturing, medicine, reconnaissance, exploration, food safety, and search and rescue. During this 10-week summer program, students will develop their research projects, attend tutorial seminars on miniature robotics, visit local government labs involved in miniature robotics research, attend professional and academic development seminars, and tour Maryland's top-notch facilities supporting robotics research including the UMd FabLab and Neutral Bouyancy Research Facility. The program culminates in student presentations on their summer research.

Selected participants will receive a $5,000 stipend and funding is available for on-campus housing and travel support. Housing for local students (within commuting distance of the University of Maryland) is subject to funding constraints. Students must be a US citizen or permanent resident to apply. International students are NOT eligible for this program.

More information about the program, including sample project descriptions, can be found at:

  • NAMEPA Undergrad Summer Research - Texas A&M University

The Dwight Look College of Engineering at Texas A&M University invites students from your program to apply for the 2014 Undergraduate Summer Research Grant (USRG) Program. During this summer research experience, participants work closely with faculty members on current or individual research projects, attend development and GRE workshops, make a formal poster presentation of their research experience, and submit a final written report describing the results of their research.

Additional information and the application can be found at http://easa.tamu.edu/usrg

    Deadline: Monday, February 10, 2014.

    Funding:

Each participant will receive a $5,000 scholarship for support during the ten weeks.

The program will also pay tuition and fees for one credit hour of a required independent study/research; provide housing; and pay up to $400 for travel expenses for non-TAMU participants.

If you or your students have any questions about the program or application process, please contact Matthew Pariyothorn at USRG@tamu.edu or 979-845-7200.

  • Summer 2014 Research at Syracuse University

The Syracuse University Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP) Research Program is a paid summer research opportunity that provides undergraduate scholars with the opportunity to work with distinguished faculty and staff as well as network with others in their field of interest. Student scholars have the opportunity to conduct and present research over a ten-week period under the direction of a faculty research mentor at Syracuse University.

Through this program, scholars will gain theoretical knowledge and practical training in academic research and scientific experimentation. The SU LSAMP research program was developed to aid in the retention of traditionally underrepresented groups in the sciences, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

    What are the benefits?

    •  $3400 research stipend
    •  Round-trip travel stipend of up to $150*
    •  Free double occupancy room on the SU campus
    •  State-of-the-art laboratories, libraries, computers, etc.
    •  Meals provided during group events

*For students living outside of the Syracuse area

    Research Areas

Students may apply for research opportunities in any of the following STEM disciplines: Biology, Biomedical and Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Earth Science, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Information Studies, Mathematics, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, and Physics.
