On Tuesday, May 6 between 5:00-7:00 a.m., the production IP Address Management appliance grid will be upgraded to a new software release from the vendor (9.0.6).
What’s new:
- Fixed: Grid Manager once again displays fallback records in strikethrough font as a visual reminder that they are masked by DNS Traffic Control.
- IPAM now supports DHCPv6 Fixed Address / Host Address allocation based on client MAC address (RFC 6939) -- but please note that this feature will not be usable in our environment until it is also supported by our building routers. See also Limitations of DHCPv6 fixed address allocation.
- various internal fixes
What's different:
- "SSO Login" has not changed, but the Alternative Login Method is now split into two screens (enter username on the first screen and click Next, then enter password on the second screen and click Login).
- The login screen now includes a "Need Assistance?" section with several direct links to the vendor support website which should not be used by campus IT Professionals. If you need assistance using IPAM, please continue to contact hostmgr as always.
- The color scheme of the user interface has changed slightly.
How will services be affected during the maintenance window?
- During the maintenance window, IT Professionals will not be able to log in to Grid Manager (via the GUI or the API) to make DNS and DHCP configuration changes.
- Any Scheduled Tasks created in Grid Manager that have not completed before maintenance begins will be automatically removed.
- Due to the use of DHCP Failover, clients will in general still be able to obtain DHCP leases. However, if a particular DHCP Range is very nearly full and experiencing a lot of churn (old clients leaving and new clients joining the network) during the maintenance window, it is possible that some new clients joining that range may not be able to obtain leases until both servers are back online.
- DNS query resolution will not be impacted.
If you would like to preview the new software release, you may log into the development IPAM system at https://dev.ipam.illinois.edu/ (from the campus network or VPN).
Please contact hostmgr with any questions or feedback.
