Joe Hinton, an Ed.D. Education Policy, Organization, & Leadership student was selected as a U.S. Department of Agriculture Kika De La Garza Education Fellow for 2024.
The program brings together leaders from Hispanic-serving institutions and districts nationwide to learn about USDA services and programs that can benefit them and their communities. Fellows spend one week meeting with leaders from different USDA agencies in the Washington, D.C., area, learning more about national and regional issues, policy-making, and research.
This effort is part of USDA’s commitment to advance equity in professional development opportunities and build a more diverse pipeline into public service and the agricultural sector. “This year’s class of fellows is the largest so far and a testament to the program’s success,” said Dr. Lisa R. Ramírez, director of USDA’s Office of Partnerships and Public Engagement.
In addition to pursuing his Ed.D. from Illinois, Hinton currently serves as the associate dean of career services for Harold Washington College in Chicago.
