The University of Southern Indiana Board of Trustees has approved College of Education Dean Emeritus James D. Anderson to receive an honorary degree at the school's upcoming Graduate Student Commencement ceremony on May 3rd in Evansville, IN.
Dr. Anderson will be awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws degree for his lifetime commitment to education. Anderson has been a longtime mentor to Southern Indiana's President, Dr. Ronald S. Rochon, '97, Ph.D. EPOL.
In 2021, Anderson was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, one of the nation's oldest and most prestigious honor societies. The American Education Research Association also awarded him an AERA Presidential Citation in 2020, the organization's highest award. In 2012, the AERA selected Anderson as a Fellow for Outstanding Research and received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education. Anderson was also elected to the National Academy of Education in 2008.
