For 2021, the Center for Education in Small Urbana Communities in the College of Education at Illinois is celebrating the 20th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Creative Expressions Competition. Over the years, thousands of students in grades two through 12 have submitted creative contest entries that included essays, songs, artwork, spoken word, poems, and videos.
This year’s winners wrote about findings ways to create more inclusive communities and equitable schools. The students clearly remind us of the teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. as they identify social injustices and underscore meaningful ideas about creating a better future for everyone. The competition clearly highlights these brilliant and creative students from our local schools, and we are honored to showcase their work through the 20-minute video of the competition.
The 2021 winners are:
-
Jamira Faust, Urbana High School
-
Sarah Guo, University Laboratory High School
