Tom Sorensen, '22 Ed.D. EPOL, has been named a 2024 American Geographical Society Teachers Fellow.
Sorensen is a teacher at the Kwajalein Jr./Sr. High School in the Marshall Islands and a lecturer at the Ebeye satellite campus of the College of the Marshall Islands. While in the Marshall Islands, Sorensen has established the first AVID program for college and career readiness in all of Micronesia, led school to Cognia accreditation, and created the Kwajalein Kajin program that facilitates Marshallese language courses for military personnel.
Every year, selected Fellows to engage in a year-long development program with the American Geographical Society to broaden their geographic and geospatial knowledge.
Teacher Fellows are invited to attend the annual Geography 2050 Symposium at Columbia University in New York. Fellows are APHG teachers from across the country who have the opportunity to convene with thought leaders from academia, government, industry, and the social sector who gather to discuss the major forces that will shape our planet’s future.
