Professor Rochelle Gutierrez will give a keynote address, "What Kind of Mathematics Do We Need Now?" at the largest annual (virtual) math education conference in the U.S. on Wednesday, November 11.
The combined events of COVID-19, Black Lives Matter, and climate change have opened the door for many teachers to question what is happening in the world and their place in it. Gutierrez' session supports teachers to reflect on what is considered “normal” in mathematics teaching and learning and what it will take to rehumanize mathematics. More than just rethink the ways we teach, she will engage those at the conference to reconsider mathematics itself and how it can be in the service of connecting us with each other and the natural world.
