H. Chad Lane, an associate professor in the Department of Educational Psychology, has co-edited a special issue that includes 15 articles that focus on the future of intelligent educational technologies and research in the International Society for Artificial Intelligence. The piece is titled “The Next 25 Years: How Advanced Interactive Learning Technologies will Change the World” and is the second part of AIED’s special-edition journals that recognize the organization’s 25th anniversary.
Lane said the issue he partook in was special because of its forward-looking theme and the editors’ interest in asking the authors to boldly predict what they thought the future of educational technologies would look like.
“We invited the authors in the special issue because of their creative and innovative approaches to research,” Lane said. “They are from all over the world and cover a broad range of the educational technology spectrum, such as computer-supported collaborative learning, educational data mining, crowdsourcing, robotics, and more. The idea was to emphasize the interdisciplinary themes of AIED research and sketch a roadmap for the next 25 years of work we believe will be needed. The articles are all creative in their own ways and should be enjoyable to read.”
