As part of the Mathematics, Science, & Engineering Education Graduate Seminar, graduate students and faculty members from Purdue University and the University of Illinois gathered at the Education building on April 22 to discuss writing strategies and research interests. Approximately 30 people attended the event.
Dr. Jill Newton from Purdue University led a workshop called “Exploring Writing Identities,” and Dr. Rochelle Gutierrez, a professor in the Department of Curriculum & Instruction, led a workshop called “Publishing in Top Notch Journals and Special Issues.”
The graduate students participated in roundtable discussions organized by Dr. Sarah Lubienski, a professor in the Department of Curriculum & Instruction, which enabled them to share their research interests and receive feedback about ongoing work.
The event was coordinated by Dr. Gloriana González, an associate professor in the Department of Curriculum & Instruction, for the graduate students in the Mathematics Science and Engineering Education division in Curriculum & Instruction.
Andrew Hunte and Martha Makowski also participated at the afternoon event as part of the welcoming committee.
"We expect that this event will be the beginning of future collaborations across institutions," González said.
