Cherie Avent, assistant professor of Educational Psychology, has been awarded the Marcia Guttentag Promising New Evaluator Award from the American Evaluation Association.
"I am deeply honored to receive the American Evaluation Association's (AEA) Marcia Guttentag Promising New Evaluator Award, " Avent told the AEA. "Dr. Guttentag's scholarship highlighted the need for shifting towards a focus on context and the inclusion of diverse perspectives and methods, which are key ideas that shape my scholarship, practice, and teaching. This award reinforces my commitment to centering communities, honoring their lived experiences, and using evaluation as a tool for illuminating inequities and promoting meaningful impact that advances social justice."
The award is presented to a promising new evaluator during the first five years after completion of his or her Master's or Doctoral degree or within five years of entering the evaluation profession and whose work is consistent with the AEA Guiding Principles for Evaluators, AEA Evaluator Competencies, AEA Cultural Competence Statement, and the Program Evaluation Standards.
