Many congratulations to Education at Illinois alumnus Ronald S. Rochon, Ph.D. ’97 EPS, who was inaugurated as the fourth president of the University of Southern Indiana (USI) during festivities held April 4-5.
Rochon began his tenure as USI president in July 2018, after eight years serving the university as provost. He has overseen the overhaul of a seminar course at the school, led the development of a second doctoral program in educational leadership, and has created new opportunities and programs for all students.
Several Education faculty members, Rochon's former colleagues, attended his inauguration events as delegates from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The evening before the inauguration featured a moderated discussion led by General Colin L. Powell, USA (Ret.) titled "Leadership: Taking Charge" at the newly opened USI Arena.
During his inauguration, Rochon charged those in attendance with one very specific task: find someone different from them and get to know them. Performances by the Tuskegee University Gold Voices Concert Choir and the USI Chamber Choir made for a meaningful and memorable ceremony.
