Dr. Gianina Baker, Assistant Director of the National Institute for Learning Outcomes Assessment (NILOA) and UIUC College of Education Alumnae, has been recently announced as the newest mentor for the Higher Learning Commission’s (HLC) Assessment Academy. This appointment is a recognition of Dr. Baker’s commitment to improving assessment and student learning, which is certainly evidenced by her work.
The HLC Assessment Academy helps institutions advance and scaffold on their assessment efforts. The Academy offers institutions the time and space to reflect and understand their resources, priorities, and goals while also being mindful of the realities of their student populations. As a mentor in the Assessment Academy, Dr. Baker will help institutions establish sustainable structures that support student success through attainment of learning goals within their contexts. She will help guide participating institutions through creating opportunities for campus-wide engagement in support of student learning. A big piece of this work will be intentionally embedding student success into the values and practices of the institution—with an emphasis on marginalized populations—to help students achieve their potential.
Please join us in congratulating Dr. Baker for this appointment and thanking her for this continued devotion to authentic assessment of student learning!
