The Humanities Research Institute (HRI) has named two members of the College of Education to their Campus Fellowship for 2025-26.
Education Policy, Organization & Leadership associate professor Mirelsie Velázquez, and EPOL graduate student Asmaa Elsayed were named to the cohort. HRI grants Campus Fellowships to Illinois faculty and graduate students, who spend the year researching, writing, and participating in the HRI Fellows Seminar. The theme for this year is Story and Place.
Velázquez's project is "Genealogies of Empowerment and the Makings of Home: Latina/o Activism at the University of Illinois, 1970–1992." Elsayed will focus on her project, "Between Shadows and Stories: Navigating the Physical and Digital to Redefine 'Place' and Reclaim Belonging for Ex-Muslim Women."
Faculty fellows are provided with one semester of release time and research funds. Graduate student fellows are given a stipend and a tuition and partial fee waiver for the academic year of the award.
