A group from Curriculum & Instruction will present their research at the International Commission on Mathematics Instruction's conference, Advances in Geometry Instruction, at the Université de Reims in Champagne-Argenne, France.
Gloriana Gonzalez Rivera, professor, and Saadeddine Shehab, Ph.D. '19 C&I will present their NSF-funded research, Teaching Geometry to Advance Design Justice, at the conference. The research looks at applying a design justice perspective to geometry instruction that can allow students to advance social justice in their communities.
The research received a $1.37 million grant from the NSF on August 1, 2023. It is in collaboration with the campus' Siebel Center for Design, where Shehab serves as associate director of assessment and research.
The conference will take place April 23-26. This is the first conference on the future of teaching geometry in 30 years.
