The Senate of the (National and Kapodistrian) University of Athens, Greece, after the proposal of the Dean of the School of Philosophy and the Department of Music Studies, has unanimously decided to award the title of Doctor Honoris Causa (honorary doctorate degree) to Professor Emerita Liora Bresler of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign's College of Education.
Bresler, a distinguished American music educator whose work focuses on the arts and education as well as qualitative research methodology, is a pioneer in interdisciplinary studies, interconnecting different art forms with education, aesthetics, and culture. Her particularly probative musicologist view affords her a unique creativity and deeper understanding of these fields. She has authored and edited numerous books and special issues and published more than 150 papers in the leading journals of education, music and arts education. Her work has been translated into nine languages and she has received numerous awards.
The ceremony will take place at the National and Kapodistrian University Ceremonial Hall in Athens, Greece, on February 22, 2023.
