Frank Gallo, 86, of Urbana, died March 22 at his home. He was a sculptor and the head of graduate sculpture at the university. In 1985, he was awarded the Senior Scholar award from the university. He was a pioneer in cast paper, a technique he taught in the handmade paper and paper casting program he helped create at Illinois. A memorial and celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
Charles E. “Charlie” Hartman, 75, of Collison, Illinois, died March 21 at his home. He managed the horse farm at the university until his retirement in 2002. Helen Wright, 93, of Savoy, formerly of Champaign, died March 25 at Meadowbrook Health Center, Urbana. She worked in the department of admissions and records at the university. A celebration of life service begins at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 30, at Morgan Memorial Home in Savoy, Illinois, with the Rev. Jeff Caithamer officiating, preceded by a visitation at 10 a.m.
