Reports on water demand studies in three water supply planning regions in Illinois have been completed by the Illinois State Water Survey (ISWS) and are available on-line. The studies are for the Middle Illinois (ISWS Contract Report 2018-0), Kankakee (ISWS Contract Report 2019-01), and Rock River (ISWS Contract Report 2019-02) regions. The Middle Illinois region includes seven counties – LaSalle, Livingston, Marshall, Peoria, Putnam, Stark, and Woodford – and several major cities including Peoria, LaSalle-Peru, Ottawa Pontiac, and Streator. The Kankakee region includes Kankakee, Ford, and Iroquois Counties, including the city of Kankakee. The Rock River region includes 11 counties – Boone, Bureau, Carroll, Henry, Jo Daviess, Lee, Ogle, Rock Island, Stephenson, Whiteside, and Winnebago – and major cities including Rockford, Rock Island, Moline, Galesburg, and Freeport.
The demands are estimated through the year 2060. Five sectors were evaluated in each region: (1) public supply; (2) self-supplied domestic; (3) self-supplied thermoelectric power generation; (4) self-supplied industrial and commercial; and (5) self-supplied irrigation, livestock, and environmental.
