This summer, we will have three different opportunities for you to participate. Click on the link to learn more or to start your application! (Please note all programs use a rolling admission, so apply early to secure your spot.)
Global Maternal and Child Health in Rwanda (6 credits) – Pre-nursing, Junior BSN students, 2nd year MSN-GE students, RN-BSN, or DNP students – All UIC Campuses
- Description: Students will discuss and examine current issues affecting pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and infants in Africa. The course also includes opportunities for clinical observations (and hands-on activities for those who have passed a maternity course), skills lab training and various cultural visits and experiences.
- Location: Kigali, Rwanda
- Dates: July 6 – 27, 2025
- Cost: $5,045

Culture and Health in Spain (6 credits) – Junior BSN students, 2nd year MSN-GE students – Chicago or Springfield Campus only
- Description: Students will participate in a one-week international nursing program alongside nursing students from Spain, the US, and the UK. Students will engage in hospital shadowing experiences, medical Spanish lessons and cultural visits.
- Location: Pamplona and Barcelona, Spain
- Dates: May 4- 24, 2025
- Cost: $4,880

Note for 2025: because of the University of Navarra's Nursing Summer School and the UIUC academic calendar, this program is only open to UIC Chicago or Springfield nursing students.
Population Health in Ireland (6 credits) – Pre-nursing Junior BSN students, 2nd year MSN-GE students, RN-BSN, or DNP students – All UIC Campuses
- Description: This course will introduce students to the concept of community as a health system, and to the roles and responsibilities of health and social professionals in population health. Students will complete a comprehensive assessment of the community of Dublin, and explore how differences in health care systems, culture, policy, and environment impact population health through clinic, community agency, hospital and cultural experiences.
- Location: Dublin, Belfast, and Galway, Ireland
- Dates: May 12 – 31, 2025
- Cost: $5,655

Bring a Fellow Flame!
- Study abroad with a friend and save $250 each! Submit this application with a friend and receive a waiver of the application and administrative fees on your program when you both are accepted/commit to any SAO faculty directed program.
Population Health in Ireland Scholarship:
UIC College of Nursing Study Abroad Scholarship
- All current College of Nursing students are eligible to receive a significant scholarship toward their study abroad program. Last year we covered approximately 40% of the program fee for all students who applied. Funding amount depends on available funds and number of students applying. Students must be accepted into one of the three programs above to be eligible to receive funding. Click here to apply by February 24, 2025.
