    National Great Rivers Research and Education Center (NGRREC) has regionally placed several grant funded Land Conservation Specialists (LCS and Specialist) and a Conservation Program Manager to target and implement relevant conservation programs aimed at reducing sediment and nutrient loading, and improving wildlife habitat in the Illinois and Kaskaskia River Basins in a coordinated effort. Under supervision of the Conservation Program Manager” the Land Conservation Specialists work with EPA, NRCS, USFWS, and IDNR to actively target Best Management Practices (BMPs) or conservation practices on private lands, using sound data; hiring and training of LCS and other related staff; and on special projects as they arise with NGRRECâ„  partners. As time allows the Manager will serve as a backup to perform certain duties assigned to those in LCS roles if it would become necessary.

    Connections Program Facilitator: Connections programs serve middle school students in the Boston Public School (BPS) district. Lasting in length from one to three days with overnights, the Connections program strives to increase interest in science learning and the development of social emotional skills. The majority of these programs will use established curriculum, based on the Massachusetts State Science Standards to foster hands on learning experience in the natural environment. Connections Program Facilitators are responsible for overseeing the safety and course outcomes for agroup of 8-10 Boston Public School students on a Connections expedition. Facilitators promote teamwork, problem solving, character development, and effective communication through group processing and reflection.

    The primary responsibility of this position is to fulfill the education and outreach mission of Cedar Creek Ecosystem Science Reserve (CCESR), which is to providescience-based educational programs for learners of all ages to improve understanding of our planet’s ecosystems and how they are changing under humanpressures. The position involves teaching, developing, and coordinating all education and outreach activities at CCESR, which is near East Bethel, MN. Thisincludes teaching K-12 students, facilitating faculty teaching of university students at CCESR, providing professional development opportunities for K-12 teachers,and creating and leading outreach programs both at CCESR and off-site. Other duties include recruiting and training part-time teaching staff and volunteers,developing and updating programming content, evaluating programming, promoting CCESR by increasing the number of individuals participating in programs,maintaining the CCESR site usage database, reporting progress toward program goals, and working with other CCESR staff to support the research andconservation missions of CCESR.
