  • dns3 IPv6 address change: Aug 16, 2023

On Wed Aug 16, the IPv6 address of dns3.illinois.edu will change.  No action is required except for a very few customers who have already been notified separately.

    (see full post for details)

  • SSO Login maintenance: Nov 30, 2021

On Tuesday, November 30 between 5:00-7:00am, the production IP Address Management appliance grid will be patched with a software hotfix from the vendor, and SSO Login via Shibboleth will be re-enabled.

    (see full post for details)

  • SSO Login disabled (again)

Please use the Alternative Login Method with your full Active Directory userPrincipalName (typically yournetid@illinois.edu) and 2FA.

You may need to append a passcode or factor name to your password for 2FA purposes; see go.illinois.edu/ipamlogin for more information, and contact hostmgr if you still have trouble logging in.

  • IPAM Upgrade: Jul 13, 2021

On Tuesday, July 13 between 5:00-7:00am, the production IP Address Management appliance grid will be upgraded to a new software release from the vendor (8.5.2), and an IPv6 address (2600:1f16:8b2:2e01::53) will be added to dns3.illinois.edu.

    (see full post for details)

  • ipam2 AWS migration and other maintenance

During February 2021, several members of the production IP Address Management appliance grid will be refreshed in-place with new hardware, and the geo-redundant backup grid manager appliance (used in disaster recovery scenarios and some planned maintenance scenarios, including this one) will migrate from University of Illinois IP space to a public IP in AWS.

Action required: IT Pros should ensure that their use of ipam.illinois.edu (via the GUI or the API) to make DNS and DHCP configuration changes is always from a system which has outbound Internet access.

    (see full post for details)

  • SSO Login disabled

Please continue to use the Alternative Login Method, making sure to provide your full Active Directory userPrincipalName (typically yournetid@illinois.edu).

  • IPAM Upgrade: Jan 5, 2021

On Tue Jan 5 between 5:00-7:00am, the production IP Address Management appliance grid will be upgraded to a new software release from the vendor (8.5.1).  As part of this upgrade, the login procedures will change, and (unfortunately) your individual GUI personalizations will be lost.

IT Pros who use IPAM should consider taking these action steps before the upgrade:

    1. Log in to the production system at https://ipam.illinois.edu/ and take notes and/or screenshots of any individual GUI personalizations that are important to you, so that you can more easily recreate them after the upgrade.

    2. Test your access to https://dev.ipam.illinois.edu/ using "SSO Login" (note: you may need VPN for this test since the dev system is not reachable from off-campus).

    3. If you use the IPAM API, test your access to the dev system's API.

    4. Contact hostmgr if you encounter any problems.

  • dev.ipam Preview Upgrade: Nov 16, 2020

The development IP Address Management appliance grid at https://dev.ipam.illinois.edu/ has been upgraded to a new software release from the vendor, and the login procedure has changed.

  • DNS over HTTPS

Mozilla has announced plans to begin enabling DNS over HTTPS by default for a small percentage of Firefox users in the USA, "starting in late September." This is motivated by a desire to improve consumer privacy on untrusted networks, but could negatively impact people on the University of Illinois campus network, so Technology Services is taking action to avoid impairing the default user experience.
