James D. Anderson, Dean, made the following announcement in an email to all College of Education faculty and staff:
I am extremely pleased to announce that Dr. Cheryl Light Shriner has been named the Goldstick Family Scholar, effective February 1, 2022. She is one of four accomplished scholars from the Department of Special Education to receive this honor, which was established by Phillip C. and the late Beverly Kramer Goldstick to provide sustainable training and research programs in the area of communication disorders in special education.
Dr. Light Shriner is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst-Doctoral Level (BCBA-D) with extensive training in applied behavior analysis, augmentative and alternative communication, and assistive technology. She has expertise working with individuals: (a) with limited communication and social skills, (b) who engage in challenging behaviors, (c) with autism, (d) with moderate to severe intellectual or developmental disabilities, and (e) with physical or multiple disabilities. Dr. Light Shriner promotes collaboration between community agencies, faculty, college students, families, and individuals with disabilities to improve awareness, knowledge, and supports for these individuals. She also works closely with the professional team at The Autism Program (TAP) at the University of Illinois and offers training to college students to prepare them to become Registered Behavior Technicians to support individuals with autism and has offered educational sessions to parents and professionals interested in interventions to address challenging behavior of students with disabilities.
In addition to continuing her outstanding work in these areas, Dr. Light Shriner will provide leadership to the annual Goldstick Family Lecture Series on Communication Disabilities, identifying and inviting a leading scholar in the field to address a public audience and meet with faculty and students about their research.
Please join me in congratulating Dr. Light Shriner on this appointment.
