The Office of Community College Research and Leadership (OCCRL) was established in 1989 at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The Office provides research, leadership, and service to P-20 educators who seek to improve student transition to college and careers with special focus on community colleges as a gateway to postsecondary education and employment.
OCCRL seeks a Research Assistant Professor to provide the leadership and support for several large-scale research and evaluation projects that enroll diverse youth and adults in career pathway programs that lead to further education and living-wage employment. Expertise in theories of college and career transition, including college and career readiness, dual credit and dual enrollment, transfer and articulation, college retention and completion, and placement in employment is desired. Designing and conducting mixed methods research studies, including mixing advanced statistical modeling with qualitative methods, is an important aspect of the position.
Successful applicants should have experience working in a collaborative and policy-oriented research environment. They should also possess strong analytical, communications and managerial skills, and they should have prior experience writing research proposals and leading grant-funded research teams. Travel in the United States to conduct research, deliver professional papers, and provide technical assistance is necessary. An active publication agenda as well as interest in teaching graduate courses on higher education and the community colleges is highly desirable.
This is a full-time (100%), 12-month non-tenure track academic professional position. The position is fully grant-funded and renewal of the position is contingent upon availability of funds.
Qualifications:
Required: Doctoral degree in higher education, community college education, education and public policy, career-technical education, education leadership, educational psychology, education economics, or a related field of study. In addition, 4-5 years experience working in a team-oriented research environment, with minimum of 2 years experience leading research teams.
