Congratulations to Special Education Ph.D. students Megan Best and Landria Seals Green and two-time EPOL graduate Asia Fuller Hamilton on being nominated for the Champaign News-Gazette Person of the Year.
Best was nominated by Centennial High School vocational coordinator and special education teacher Matt Nieto. In the nomination, Nieto said: "Megan has been a huge asset to the community, particularly with her willingness to collaborate with the Centennial High School vocational program. Megan has found creative ways for several students who receive special education services to gain meaningful work experiences within the educational setting."
Seals Green was nominated by Uni High senior Xenia Mongwa. Seals Green is the founder of Excel Prep, a nonpublic school for neurodiverse students from grades K-8. Mongwa's nomination says, "She felt the need for the school when she realized there wasn't enough support for her family and other neurodiverse students in the local community."
Denise Poindexter, director of executive search at AMN Healthcare Leadership, nominated Asia Fuller Hamilton, principal at Garden Hills Academy, for her commitment to her students, family, and friends. "Her passion for education ignites young minds, fostering a love for learning that extends far beyond the classroom walls," says Poindexter, "She recognizes the potential in each student, nurturing their talents and providing them with the tools they need to soar. Dr. Fuller Hamilton's dedication transcends the professional realm."
