Rebecca Ginsburg, director of the Education Justice Project (EJP) and associate professor EPOL, will moderate a panel at the University of Illinois System's Free People Read Freely: Literacy, Inclusion, and Democracy symposium on August 20 at 3:00 p.m. at the I Hotel and Conference Center.
The panel, Freedom to Read, will feature a conversation with EJP alumni about what access to books and education has meant to them. They will also discuss the removal of nearly 200 books from the shelves of the EJP library at the Danville Correctional Facility in 2019.
The symposium will feature speakers and panel discussions on topics including book banning, censorship, and the importance of reading and books to fostering public dialogue, inclusion, and engaged citizenship. Registration is required to attend.
