Allison O'Hern, Ed.M. '22 C&I, received the 2024 Teacher ACE award from 40 North 88 West, the Champaign County Arts Council.
The Teacher ACE Award recognizes an individual, organization, school, educator, or group that demonstrates a unique and creative approach to merging the arts and education. Through outstanding commitment and dedicated service to arts education, the winner will inspire students, teachers, and the community.
O'Hern is an English Teacher at Rantoul Township High School, where she co-runs Art Speak, an internship with the Krannert Art Museum, where students can visit local art and talk with artists.
In her nomination, O'Hern is recognized "for her knack for finding ways to spark students' creativity and recognize their own capabilities. She has created new arts-related courses, facilitated school murals, brought in artists to work with her students, and created opportunities for visual and written expression for all students both inside and outside of the classroom."
The ACE Award Ceremony was held on Tuesday, December 3.
