The College of Education saw an increase in three key recruitment areas, marking the 4th consecutive year of undergraduate enrollment growth.=
Fall 2023 statistics revealed a 9% increase in undergraduate enrollment, adding 170 freshmen to the class of 2027. The College of Education also saw a 31% increase in applications.
At the campus level, The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign saw a record-breaking freshmen class. Illinois boasts 8,325 first-year students, breaking the record set in 2021. That strong first-year class led to a record undergraduate enrollment of 35,467, following a new high of 67,398 applications. This year’s totals include 6,150 freshmen from Illinois, making up 74% of the freshman class, the largest number since 2006, breaking a nearly two-decades-old record.
Nearly one in four incoming students is a first-generation college student, making up 24% of the freshman class, and more than one in five incoming students is from an underrepresented group, increasing or steady in every category, making up 22% of the class.
