Camp Mission
Chinese is spoken by more than a billion people, making it the world’s most widely used language. Today, an estimated one out of every five people on the planet speaks Chinese. More than five million people in North America and South America alone speak Chinese. It is very important to provide the next generation of children opportunities to learn Chinese.
The Chinese Culture and Language Camp aims to promote early second language development through Chinese immersion in a fun, safe, and stimulating environment by providing bilingual teaching experts of the College of Education and innovative curriculum. The participants will be working in Scholar, an exciting and secure Web writing environment that empowers them to connect, create, and publish. In Scholar, participants will be able to collaborate with others and unleash their creativity through writing, images, audio, and video while learning Chinese. As participants create their multimedia projects, they will be able to give and receive peer feedback before publishing their final projects, a tangible record of their experience at the camp. See Scholar for more information.
Camp Audience
The camp is open to all incoming fourth-graders to eighth-graders who want to explore Chinese, as well as for children of Chinese-speaking families. Participants will have the opportunity to explore or continue developing Chinese and gain knowledge of the rich cultural traditions of the Chinese-speaking world through stories, games, martial arts, music, food, calligraphy, crafts, and field trips, while being immersed in Chinese.
Snacks and lunch are not provided. Campers must bring their own snacks and lunch. We are a nut- and seafood-free environment.
Spaces are limited to 30 participants. Your spot will only be secured upon the receipt of your payment. *Register today.
