James D. Anderson, Dean, made the following announcement in an email to all College of Education faculty, staff, and students:
I am extremely pleased to announce that Ms. Emily Stone has accepted our offer to serve as the College of Education’s inaugural Director of Public Engagement, effective immediately.
Because public engagement is increasingly prioritized by campus and by funders, this position will support faculty and staff working in community engaged research and public engagement, as well as providing undergraduate and graduate students with opportunities to connect their studies to real-world problems. Not only will Emily develop relationships with community leaders and offer direct services to meet community needs, she will work with college leadership and directors of the college’s major public engagement centers to develop a shared two – five year strategic plan for collegewide community engagement with measurable objectives and timebound milestones.
Emily holds a Master's of Public Health from Johns Hopkins University's Bloomberg School of Public Health and has served as the Bureau of Educational Research’s research development manager since 2017. She currently serves as the Chancellor’s Fellow in Public Engagement, and she developed and launched the We CU program which empowers students to meet the needs of the Champaign-Urbana community. Emily also developed and launched the Community-Academic Scholars Program and has supported the re-launch of the Champaign Freedom School.
Please join me in welcoming Emily Stone to this highly important new role in the College.
