Nidia Ruedas-Gracia, assistant professor EPSY, will serve on a virtual panel for the Chronicle of Higher Education on first-generation college students.
The panel "Ensuring First-Gen Students Thrive on Campus will take place on October 29 at 1 p.m. CT.
First-generation students, who are the first in their families to attend college, face barriers to accessing higher education, such as affordability and academic success. Many colleges and universities have focused on these basic needs. However, a holistic approach to first-generation success on campus involves much more.
The panel will also address questions like how institutions can ensure first-gen students get involved, feel a sense of belonging on campus, and have the same access to career-enhancing opportunities, such as internships, as their peers.
The forum is free to attend, and registration is required.
