Logan Pender, an Ed.M. student In Education Policy, Organization & Leadership, has been named a 2024 Gilman Scholarship Alumni Ambassador. Pender studied in South Korea while a student at Winthrop University.
While in South Korea, Logan seized opportunities to volunteer and immerse himself in the local community, where he actively contributed to cross-cultural initiatives. One of his most impactful experiences was at Nanjido Ecological Park. This volunteer work deepened his understanding of South Korea’s environmental challenges and highlighted the global importance of sustainability.
Logan’s experiences as a Gilman scholar enriched his academic trajectory and allowed him to contribute to reshaping the narrative for historically underrepresented minoritized groups in America. He recognized the immense value of resilience and cultural exchange in fostering meaningful connections across borders and how these experiences can catalyze positive change in an increasingly interconnected world.
Gilman Alumni Ambassadors officially represent the U.S. Department of State’s Gilman International Scholarship Program. They provide testimonials about their Gilman Scholarship experiences at campus presentations and offer application tips via written articles, videos, webinars, and special events. The Gilman Alumni Ambassadors have been trained by the Gilman Scholarship Program.
