Eboni Zamani-Gallaher, '00 Ph.D. EPOL, has been named the Dean of the University of Pittsburgh School of Education. She joined the Pitt faculty in 2022 as a professor of Educational Foundations, Organizations, and Policy. She served as associate Dean for equity, justice, and strategic partnerships and has been Interim Dean since August 2023.
Before joining Pitt, Zamani-Gallaher was a professor in the College of Education at Illinois, where she spent seven years as director of the Office for Community College Research and Leadership. She also worked as an associate dean of the Graduate College and associate head of the Department of Education Policy, Organization, and Leadership.
As a researcher, she focuses on equitable participation in higher education, transfer access, student retention, minoritized student populations in marginalized institutional contexts, and racial equity and campus climate in postsecondary education.
As a researcher, Zamani-Gallaher has amassed nearly $10.5 million in external funding for projects to improve higher education. The Lumina Foundation, Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and National Science Foundation are among the organizations that fund her research.
Among her numerous awards and recognitions, Zamani-Gallaher was selected as an American Educational Research Association Fellow and was named a 2023 American College Personnel Association Senior Scholar Diplomate.
