Giselle Martinez-Negrette, assistant professor C&I, has been named to a five-person panel to select two school board members for Champaign Unit 4 schools. Regional Superintendent Gary Lewis assembled the panel to review applicants to fill two empty seats on the board.
The panel will conduct In-person interviews with applicants over two days, May 29-30. The pool size will determine whether a screening process is needed to whittle down the number of applicants invited to the regional office for interviews.
To apply, individuals must drop off a letter of interest, including “why you are interested” in joining the school board in person at Regional Office of Education 9 by the 4 p.m. May 17 deadline. The office is located at 3358 Big Pine Trail in Champaign.
No applications will be received via email. Applicants must be at least 18 registered voters and residents of the Unit 4 district for the past 12 months.
The Champaign School Board could not agree on replacements for two resigned members. After 60 days, the Regional Superintendent became responsible for filling the seats. Along with Martinez-Negrette, the panel includes Lewis, Assistant Superintendent Donna Kauffman, former Urbana Superintendent Preston Williams, and former Champaign Assistant Superintendent Deloris Henry.
