Rochélle Gutierrez, professor of Curriculum & Instruction, has been awarded the Distinguished Scholar Award by the Research in Mathematics Education Special Interest Group of the American Educational Research Association.
Gutiérrez was recognized for her scholarship on issues of identity and power in mathematics education, focusing on how race, class, and language affect teaching and learning. She will deliver the SIG/RME invited address at AERA 2025.
Last year, Gutiérrez was inducted as an AERA Fellow, becoming just the tenth Education at Illinois faculty member to earn this honor.
